Filmmakers Statement


When it comes to my experience with film, I unfortunately have very little. The closest thing that I can think of would be the time I helped make signs and posters for a few scenes in the HBO series Eastbound and Down while in high school. I have had more theater experience when it comes to lighting and set design. With this course, I would really love to learn about the camera itself and be more hands on with the film making process. I like to be a hands on person and am not afraid to go the extra mile so that something may look even the slightest bit better. Where I hope to see myself in the next 10 years is to hopefully be employed and be working on a big project. I'm really into special effects and maybe by then I will have the knowledge to be working on more daring and exciting projects. I'm also really into special effects makeup. Growing up in my house, it was like Halloween every year. It's my father's favorite holiday, so instead of going to bed watching some Disney or cartoon movie, my father and I would be watching some Stephen King movie or Tales from the Crypt. I was always interested in how the monsters and creatures actually came to life. Then when a movie called Pans Labyrinth, directed by Guillermo del Toro, came to be, I was hooked on special effects makeup. One thing that probably no one really knows about me is that I love horror movies and horror makeup. If anyone ever wants to look like some sort of creature from the dead, I'd be their gal. Like I stated earlier about my dad being super into Halloween, the love of horror movies kind of sprung from that. Don't get me wrong, I'll scream bloody murder if someone pops out of a dark corner though.

Light Observation 2

Another place that I observed the light from was actually in my backyard. I have a giant wooden canopy that covers my entire back porch. The entire canopy is covered with Jasmine Ivy. It looks like something out of The Secret Garden . At noon when the sun is at its brightest, the ivy casts shadows all over my back porch. It's not enough to block the sun completely, but its enough to keep cool in. I admit, I take way too many pictures of the ivy and sun together. I loved how the shadows almost capture a whimsical feel when one sits out there.

Interview Plan

We are planning to do the documentary on a good friend of mine named Gary who is a drag queen. The focus of the documentary is to show to the versatility of those who do drag. It should draw people who have no idea about drag in. We plan to go over to Gary's apartment and film him as he gets into drag. Later on we will be moving to his favorite bar where other queens and people will meet too. There we will be conducting the Vox Pop. For the Vox Pop we are hoping the enough queens will be there to interview. If not, then we will go on with the public who show up at the bar. The expert interview will take place at his apartment before he gets into drag. I have made a list of questions that I would like to ask Gary. They are: What is drag to you? How did you get into drag? Who inspired you the most to do drag? Who are your favorite queens? Do you think the public will be more accepting of drag in the future? Cucalorus

So for the Cucalorus film festival, I went to go see a couple of shows that weren’t film related that I ended up really enjoying. This first one of those shows was the comedy show at Dead Crow Comedy Club. Mo Alexander was the headliner for the show. Before Mo went on, there were a few others before him. Two of the performers were from Canada and both were obsessed with the fact that this was where Dawsons Creek was filmed. The other performer was from here. He actually was named Port City’s Best Comic and was extremely funny. After that Mo went on to perform and the jokes were just as hilarious. He was a bit drunk when he went on which made things even funnier and he interacted with the crowd a lot which was awesome. After the show had ended, my boyfriend and I ended up at the PsyloJo concert. They were performing at the Whiskey. The was nice and they were a Phish cover band.
